Basketball Recap: Luke Thompson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Trinity Christian over East Coweta

Trinity Christian suffered their biggest loss since January 9th on Saturday. They lost 85-65 to the East Coweta Indians. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while the Indians are ranked 203rd).

Trinity Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Thompson, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 14 points along with eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was KP Russell, who shot 75% from the field en route to 11 points and four steals.

David Askew had another great game (as he tends to do), dropping a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds for East Coweta. The dominant performance also gave Askew a new career-high in assists (two). Harper Rife was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Trinity Christian is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points over those games. As for East Coweta, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity Christian will take on Troup County in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. East Coweta and KIPP Atlanta Collegiate will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' defense better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 60.8 points per game this season.
