Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Alyssa Wollenzien and Leah Grace Lead Reed-Custer to Victory

Reed-Custer hadn't done well against Peotone recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Reed-Custer Comets strolled past the Peotone Blue Devils with points to spare, taking the game 34-15. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 28-26 back in December of 2024.

Reed-Custer was led to victory by Leah Grace and Alyssa Wollenzien. Grace went 6 for 7 en route to 14 points and five boards, while Wollenzien posted 12 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Grace a new career-high in points.

Reed-Custer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Olivia Moe, who had four points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Moe is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Reed-Custer's record now sits at 12-13. As for Peotone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-20.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer will welcome Coal City at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Peotone, they will be playing at home against Clifton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
