Baseball Recap: Union Pines Triumphs

Union Pines hadn't done well against Lee County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Vikings walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets. For the Vikings, this counts as revenge for the 6-0 win the Yellow Jackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Joey Ring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaeden Sovey was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

The victory made it two in a row for Union Pines and bumps their season record up to 15-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Lee County, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-22.

Union Pines will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Yellow Jackets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
