Softball Recap: Wakeland Drops Season-High Score on Highland Park

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wakeland). They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Highland Park Scots on Tuesday. Considering the Wolverines have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Claire Schreiner and Lauren McIllwain did most of the damage at the plate: Schreiner fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while McIllwain went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs McIllwain has posted since back in April of 2024. Kaylee Kinney was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.

The win was the third in a row for Wakeland, bringing their record up to 18-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
