League recap: Gomez dominating on the mound for Cobre

2A District 5 league recap: 3/20/13

Cobre's Andres Gomez was the best pitcher in 2A District 5 this week. He retired five batters this week.

Mesilla Valley Christian boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

The Indians' Regan Ramos kept his eye on the prize while at bat this week, leading the league with a .429 average (3-for-7). For the season, he's hitting .588, good for fifth in the league. Ramos has totaled ten hits this season.

Cobre's Willie Fletcher led the league in strikeouts this week with nine. With 17 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.



Fletcher struck out eight in Thatcher's 6-5 win over the Indians on March 16. Over five innings of work, he gave up 11 hits and six runs.
