Preview: Immaculate Mustangs vs. New Fairfield Rebels
The Immaculate Mustangs will finish 2023 at home by hosting the New Fairfield Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Immaculate has not done well against Notre Dame Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Immaculate skirted past Notre Dame Catholic 49-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Immaculate.
Immaculate found their leader in underclassman Kendra Foy, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Foy has scored at least 25% of Immaculate's points. Jenna Saidman was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, New Fairfield was fully in charge on Wednesday, breezing past Weston 53-18 at home. Given New Fairfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Weston is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Immaculate now has a winning record of 2-1. As for New Fairfield, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Immaculate beat New Fairfield 35-27 when the teams last played back in February. Does Immaculate have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Fairfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
