Softball Preview: Martinsville Bluestreaks vs. Oblong Panthers        
        
		
            
 Martinsville is 2-8 against Oblong since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit  on Tuesday. The Martinsville Bluestreaks are on the road again  to play the Oblong Panthers at 4:30  p.m. Martinsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4  runs per game  this season.
 Martinsville will head into Saturday's  game ready to turn things around: they couldn't quite beat Brownstown/St. Elmo on Saturday, but the two-run margin was a huge improvement compared to the ten-run  defeat they were dealt  on Saturday. Martinsville fell just short of Brownstown/St. Elmo by a score of  10-8.
  Brylee Reed was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she  tossed five innings while giving up just one earned  (and nine unearned) runs off   seven  hits. Reed was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
 In other batting news,  Addi Adams was cooking despite her team's loss,   scoring two  runs and  stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.  Olivia Lowry was another key contributor,  scoring a  run and  stealing two bases while  getting on base  in two of her three plate appearances.
 Even though they lost, Martinsville  hit smart and  finished the game with only two  strikeouts. That's the fewest  strikeouts they've managed all season.
 Meanwhile, Oblong entered their tilt with Dugger Union with two consecutive wins  but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged the Bulldogs out  8-7.
 Oblong got a big performance out of  Jorie Weber, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was  Layla Krick, who  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
 Martinsville's record now sits at 7-13. As for Oblong, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11-1.
 Martinsville came out on top in a nail-biter against Oblong  when the teams last played  back in May of 2023, sneaking past  8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Martinsville since the  team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
