Baseball Game Preview: Gonzaga Eagles vs. DeMatha Stags

The Gonzaga Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the DeMatha Stags at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Gonzaga is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Sidwell Friends, who was ranked sixth at the time (Gonzaga was ranked 14th). The Eagles put the hurt on the Quakers with a sharp 19-3 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, DeMatha entered their tilt with Pallotti on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Panthers.

Jackson Steuart looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dominic Calabrese, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. James Park also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Gonzaga's record is now 13-5. As for DeMatha, their record now sits at 10-7.

Gonzaga beat DeMatha 6-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stags turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
