Softball Game Preview: Ottawa Pirates vs. LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers

The Ottawa Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ottawa is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Ottawa barely beat Pontiac the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Indians on Tuesday. Considering the Pirates have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for LaSalle-Peru's offense. They fell just short of Morris by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. Considering the last time the Cavaliers couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Taylor Vescogni spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, LaSalle-Peru saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Riva, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

This is the second loss in a row for LaSalle-Peru and nudges their season record down to 13-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Ottawa, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.

Ottawa couldn't quite finish off LaSalle-Peru when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 3-1. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
