Basketball Recap: Pikesville Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

It's playoff time, and Pikesville had no trouble coming through when it counted. They snuck past the Southern Rams with a 67-62 win on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won six contests in a row.

Pikesville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was NyJae Malik-El, who went 7-for-15 on her way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Malik-El's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Jones-Bey, who posted 21 points and eight boards.

Pikesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kelsey Ward, who shot 60% from the field en route to 12 points and five assists. Ward is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 56% in the last three games she's played. Emelee Parks was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.

Pikesville's victory bumped their record up to 24-3. As for Southern, with the defeat, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 24-3.

As of now, neither Pikesville nor Southern have any future games scheduled.
