Baseball Recap: St. Paul Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

St. Paul hadn't done well against La Salle recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. St. Paul's pitcher stepped up to hand La Salle a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Swordsmen have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Fernie Soto made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, St. Paul got a big performance out of Marcus Munoz, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Munoz has posted since back in April of 2024. Elias Mota was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

St. Paul was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Salle only posted a batting average of .250.

St. Paul pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for La Salle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Paul is set to take on their familiar foe Bishop Amat at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Paul 2.2, Bishop Amat 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, La Salle will challenge rival Paraclete at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
