Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Morro Bay walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Mission Oak Hawks on Wednesday as they made off with a 10-3 victory. Considering the Pirates have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Eli Brown looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Quentin Crotts and Jack Deovlet did most of the damage at the plate: Crotts got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Deovlet went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Deovlet has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Wilkinson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Morro Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission Oak only posted a batting average of .240.
The win was the sixth in a row for Morro Bay, bringing their record up to 24-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mission Oak, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-10-1.
Looking ahead, Morro Bay will face off against Hoover at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Pirates have won three straight at home, while the Patriots won ten straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Mission Oak does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
