Softball Game Preview: Wendell Trojans vs. Declo Hornets

The Wendell Trojans will head out to challenge the Declo Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Declo will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Wendell extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Trojans were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over Melba.

Breanna Comstock was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Annabelle McRoberts was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Audra Bunn, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Declo made easy work of Firth on Friday and carried off a 15-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Wendell's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Declo, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Wendell took their victory against Declo when the teams last played on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
