Preview: Dawson Eagles vs. Clear Lake Falcons
Dawson is 4-0 against Clear Lake since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Dawson Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Clear Lake Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Dawson came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Klein Cain with a 67-61 win. Given Dawson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Klein Cain is ranked 299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bryce Davis had an outrageously good game as he scored 30 points. Those 30 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Charles Anderson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Clear Lake scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They breezed by Klein Collins on the road to the tune of 99-69. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Clear Lake as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Clear Lake can attribute much of their success to Julien Barclay, who made all 7 shots he took from beyond the arc racking up 24 points and 1 assists, and Jason Obert, who scored 28 points along with three steals. The contest was Obert's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Sebastian Vivero was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Dawson's record now sits at 9-6. Clear Lake's record is now 11-6.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Dawson have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Clear Lake, though, as they've been averaging only 26.8 rebounds per game. Given Dawson's sizeable advantage in that area, Clear Lake will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Dawson against Clear Lake in their previous meeting back in February as the team secured a 72-43 win. Does Dawson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clear Lake turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
