Baseball Recap: Southern Door's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Southern Door had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-7 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Sturgeon Bay Clippers with a sharp 13-2 victory. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Drew Daoust spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Southern Door is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Neinas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Collin Everard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Southern Door was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

As for Sturgeon Bay, their record now sits at 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since April 19th.

On Sturgeon Bay's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Haese, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases were Haese's first of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Door will challenge St. Mary Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sturgeon Bay, they will take on Lena at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
