Football Recap: Morenci Starts Season with Victory Against Safford

Morenci gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They snuck past the Safford Bulldogs with a 20-14 victory. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 13-12 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Morenci to victory were Julien Aragon and Derick Lytle. Aragon rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown, while Lytle rushed for 107 yards and one TD. Those 107 rushing yards gave Lytle a new career-high.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morenci will face off against Tanque Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Safford, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Blue Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
