The Cape Fear Colts will venture away from home to face off against the Lee County Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cape Fear is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Lee County's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Cape Fear hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Everything went the Colts' way against Douglas Byrd on Tuesday as they made off with a 26-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Allie Dawson and McKinley Kolasa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Dawson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kolasa pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Dawson a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Dawson fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4, while Kolasa went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Dawson has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Addie Davis was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Kloe Watts also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Cape Fear was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .970. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lee County scored first but ultimately less than Pinecrest in their match on Tuesday. They lost 19-7 to the Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered against the Patriots since April 21, 2022.
Cherish Smith stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasie Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Cape Fear's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lee County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Cape Fear beat Lee County 4-0 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
