Basketball Recap: Maryvale Skates Past Kofa with Ease

There's no place like home for Maryvale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Kofa Kings 74-45. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Kings are ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Adrian Stubbs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 16 steals. His evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Devin Murphy, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Maryvale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Kofa lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christian Curiel, who posted six points in addition to ten boards and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Smith, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Maryvale has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Kofa, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Maryvale will square off against Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rincon/University's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Kofa, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gila Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th.
