Basketball Recap: Hampton Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hampton waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took down the Heritage Hurricanes 66-49. Given the Crabbers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hampton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abraham Taft, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Kay, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Hampton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Hampton's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Heritage, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hampton will host Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Heritage, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Grafton at 2:30 p.m.
