Cardinal Newman has gone 8-2 against Benjamin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Crusaders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. The game will give Cardinal Newman their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Cardinal Newman is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Martin County on Friday. They fell 5-2 to the Tigers. The loss put an end to the Crusaders' undefeated start to the season.
Cardinal Newman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Baughman, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Benjamin never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Santaluces with a sharp 12-0 win. The Buccaneers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12, 2025 (when they won 33-0).
Brady Davis looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, CJ Soto was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Johnny Havlicek was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Benjamin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santaluces only posted an OBP of .286.
Having lost for the first time this season, Cardinal Newman fell to 2-1. As for Benjamin, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Benjamin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cardinal Newman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Benjamin, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Cardinal Newman's hitters?
Cardinal Newman was able to grind out a solid win over Benjamin in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, winning 9-5. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
