Basketball Game Preview: Hammond Morton Governors vs. East Chicago Central Cardinals

The Hammond Morton Governors will venture away from home to challenge the East Chicago Central Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hammond Morton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.1 points per game this season.

Hammond Morton's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Thursday, when they got past Calumet Christian's usually-dominant defense. Hammond Morton claimed a resounding 85-40 win over Calumet Christian. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Governors.

Hammond Morton can attribute much of their success to Kylah KP Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and 16 rebounds, and Chanteze Holland, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards. The matchup was Patterson's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kymora Baker, who posted seven points and 15 rebounds.

Hammond Morton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, East Chicago Central came up short against Hammond Bishop Noll on Thursday and fell 54-46.

Hammond Morton's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points per game. As for East Chicago Central, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Everything came up roses for Hammond Morton against East Chicago Central in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 75-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hammond Morton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
