Preview: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Marana Tigers
Sunnyside has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Marana Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside will be strutting in after a win while Marana will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sunnyside beat Rincon/University 47-43. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Rincon/University is ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Alana Felix, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Marana lost to Tucson High Magnet School on the road by a decisive 56-37 margin on Tuesday. Marana has not had much luck with Tucson High Magnet School recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Sunnyside's victory bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Marana, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
Everything came up roses for Sunnyside against Marana when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 46-18 win. Will Sunnyside repeat their success, or does Marana have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
