Softball Recap: Frazier Commodores vs. Jeannette Jayhawks

Frazier had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jeannette Jayhawks on Monday and snuck past 5-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Frazier also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

For Jeannette's part, Grace Stein put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Stein has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings every time she's pitched this season. Stein was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Abby Shaw was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last four games she's played.

Jeannette's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2.

Frazier will take on Monessen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jeannette, they will head out on the road to challenge Bishop Canevin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jeannette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
