Basketball Recap: Monacan comes up short despite Samuel Sims' strong performance

Basketball Recap: Monacan Chiefs vs. L.C. Bird Skyhawks
The Monacan Chiefs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 67-57 to L.C. Bird. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), Monacan still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Monacan still got an impressive performance from Samuel Sims, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Sims hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Amare Cooper was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Monacan's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for L.C. Bird, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-1.
Monacan will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cosby knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 contests -- so hopefully the Chiefs like a good challenge. As for L.C. Bird, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Richmond City School of the Arts is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
