Volleyball Recap: South Newton Falls to Hanover Central in First Game of Season

South Newton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 3-1 to the Hanover Central Wildcats on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2015.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-14.

Despite the defeat, South Newton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Briley Iseminger had 19 digs and one assist. Iseminger is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season.

Hanover Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Liliana Chorba, who had 17 digs and six assists. Those six assists gave Chorba a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Ferguson, who had eight digs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Newton will venture away from home to square off against Kankakee Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hanover Central, they will head out to take on North Newton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
