Preview: Covington Trojans vs. Seeger Patriots
Covington is 9-1 against Seeger since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The pair will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Covington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, it was a hard-fought match, but Covington had to settle for a 51-48 loss against North Montgomery.
Despite the loss, Covington got a solid performance out of Coye Ferguson, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Ferguson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Curt Slider was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Seeger came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Crawfordsville as Seeger made off with a 48-24 win.
Luke Pluimer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was cameron laws, who scored eight points along with five assists.
Covington's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Seeger, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Covington have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Seeger, though, as they've been averaging only 24.5 rebounds per game. Given Covington's sizeable advantage in that area, Seeger will need to find a way to close that gap.
Covington was taken down by Seeger 72-39 when the teams last played back in February. Can Covington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
