Baseball Recap: Payette Beats Marsing for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Payette entered their tilt with Marsing on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Huskies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since May 4, 2024.

Jahzyon Sylva was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

Sylva wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Darrien Pecunia, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another was Jake Penfold, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Payette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Payette now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Marsing, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
