Basketball Recap: Noah Mayberry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shawnee over Egyptian

Shawnee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 66-50 bruising from the Egyptian Pharaohs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pharaohs this season, with their most recent loss being a 73-68 defeat back in December of 2024.

Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Mayberry, who posted 12 points and five blocks. Mayberry is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gabe Ellet, who put up 13 points and three steals.

Egyptian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Plott, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Curry was another key player, going 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points and three blocks.

Shawnee's loss dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Egyptian, their record now sits at 9-18.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee will host Pope County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Egyptian, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cobden at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Egyptian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
