Preview: Castaic Coyotes vs. West Ranch Wildcats
Castaic is 0-1 against West Ranch since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Castaic Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the West Ranch Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Castaic strolled past Saugus with points to spare, taking the game 42-28. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Castaic.
Castaic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Lewis out in front who threw for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Gage Gibson was in the mix as well, providing Castaic with three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, West Ranch was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They took down Golden Valley 31-13. Given West Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 196th, while Golden Valley is ranked 410th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Ranch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Liam Mcdaniel, who threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke DePerno, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.
West Ranch's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Ryan Walters and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Castaic to 6-2 and West Ranch to 6-3.
Castaic was taken down by West Ranch 63-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Castaic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
