Baseball Game Preview: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. Colorado Springs Christian Lions

Ellicott hasn't had much luck against Colorado Springs Christian recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Thunderhawks will welcome the Lions at 11:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Ellicott is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 17-16 heartbreaker at the hands of Calhan. Even if the Thunderhawks couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs Christian made easy work of Florence on Thursday and carried off a 19-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won four in a row.

Luc Baskin was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Garl, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Colorado Springs Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.

Colorado Springs Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Ellicott, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12-1.

Ellicott took their win against Colorado Springs Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-7 score. Will the Thunderhawks repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
