Basketball Recap: Vista PEAK Prep Bison vs. Denver East Angels
After flying high against George Washington last Tuesday, Vista PEAK Prep came back down to earth. The Vista PEAK Prep Bison were beaten by the Denver East Angels 73-31 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Bison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Angels are ranked 11th).

Several Bison players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amirah Pena, who posted 12 points and three steals. Pena is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Knakai Starks, who had six points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Vista PEAK Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Denver East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace Hall, who shot 67% from the field en route to 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Hall continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Evelina Otto was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.
Vista PEAK Prep's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Denver East, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
