Basketball Recap: Ruben Herrera's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vaughn over Northridge Academy

Vaughn lost against Northridge Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vaughn White Tigers took a 65-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northridge Academy Pumas. The White Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several White Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ruben Herrera, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Herrera a new career-high in steals. Siddiq Mumin was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.

Landon Lake was the offensive standout of the match as he went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Alvarez, who posted eight points.

Vaughn's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Northridge Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-17 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northridge Academy beat Vaughn by a score of 77-51 on Monday.
