The Peyton Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Manitou Springs Mustangs at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Peyton will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
On Tuesday, Peyton made easy work of Mitchell and carried off a 15-5 win. Considering the Panthers have won three matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Trenten Compton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Compton was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton got a massive performance out of Noah Martin, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Martin has posted since back in March of 2024. Zayden Ebbert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Peyton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only posted an OBP of .385.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Wednesday. Manitou Springs had just enough and edged out Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Manitou Springs has posted since April 25, 2024.
Like Peyton, Manitou Springs also got a great game from a two-way player: Maxton Bolster. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Bolster was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.
Peyton pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season. As for Manitou Springs, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-6.
Manitou Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Peyton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .530. It's a different story for Manitou Springs, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Peyton's hitters?
Peyton took their victory against Manitou Springs in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
