Baseball Recap: Oxford Wildcats vs. Utica Chieftains

If Oxford was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of Port Huron on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell 3-0 to the Utica Chieftains on Monday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Eli Carpenter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April.

Oxford's loss dropped their record down to 18-13-1. As for Utica, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-18 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford will venture away from home to square off against Romeo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Bulldogs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Utica, they will head out to take on Fraser at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
