Softball Recap: Del Norte Sets Scoring Season-High Against Carlsbad

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Norte). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Carlsbad Lancers on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Nighthawks also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Taylor Maeda and Lainey LLamas did most of the damage at the plate: Maeda scored a run while going 2-for-2, while LLamas scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Maeda also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Gabriella Datanagan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Del Norte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Del Norte's victory bumped their record up to 6-4-1. As for Carlsbad, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Del Norte will challenge Granite Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Del Norte is facing Granite Hills at the right time seeing as Granite Hills is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Carlsbad, they will square off against Oceanside at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
