Recap: Rangely Panthers vs. North Fork Miners
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Rangely Panthers proved on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 42-26 victory over North Fork. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Rangely has scored all year.
Rangely's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Annika Cantrell, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Ducey, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
When it comes to explaining why North Fork lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sidney Neff. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Angelovich, who scored seven points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Rangely and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for North Fork, they have fallen quite a ways from their 18-6 record last season and are now at 2-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rangely won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Soroco at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. Soroco will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Rangely is ranked 54th). As for North Fork, they will be playing at home against Gunnison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
