Baseball Game Preview: Mercer County Titans vs. Washington County Commanders

The Mercer County Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the Washington County Commanders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercer County will be strutting in after a win while Washington County will be coming in after a loss.

Mercer County took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Western Hills by a score of 10-7. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brayden Campbell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Campbell was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Devine, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Mercer County: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 13-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colson Fogg, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Boyle County hit Washington County with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Commanders took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels.

Washington County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lance Coulter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Mercer County's record now sits at 19-16. As for Washington County, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-14.

Mercer County beat Washington County 7-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
