The Edgewood Warriors will head out to face off against the Howland Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgewood is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Edgewood couldn't beat Jefferson Area on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Warriors took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.
Edgewood got a big performance out of Devon Sanchez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Zane Naylor was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Howland beat Lakeview 5-2 on Thursday.
Rocco Perkins tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luca Fronzaglio, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Howland is 7-2 when Fronzaglio posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise.
Edgewood's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Howland, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Edgewood's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Warriors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Howland, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Edgewood continue to outrun the ball?
Edgewood took their win against Howland in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
