Oregon and Genoa-Kingston are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Hawks will host the Cogs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oregon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Oregon turned things around against Lutheran on Tuesday. They never let the Crusaders get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the game before.
Giselle Zavala was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Zavala was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Oregon got a massive performance out of Kaelin Shaffer, who fired off three triples, four runs, and one double while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Shaffer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Shaffer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Oregon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Genoa-Kingston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 17-0 to Stillman Valley.
Genoa-Kingston's loss dropped their record down to 10-19-1. As for Oregon, their victory bumped their record up to 19-10.
Oregon's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Genoa-Kingston, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Oregon continue to outrun the ball?
Oregon was able to grind out a solid win over Genoa-Kingston in their previous matchup back in April, winning 11-8. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
