The Edgewood Academy Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Abbeville Christian Academy Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgewood Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Abbeville Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Edgewood Academy will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Ezekiel Academy on Monday. Edgewood Academy blew past Ezekiel Academy 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Colten Lashley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Landon Smith and Cooper Freeman did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Freeman scored two runs and stole Two bases. That's the most stolen bases Freeman has posted since back in April of 2024. Garrett Myers was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Edgewood Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ezekiel Academy only posted an OBP of .381.
Meanwhile, Abbeville Christian Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Fort Dale Academy on Saturday and fell 7-5. The Generals have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Jaiden Buckhannon was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Abbeville Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Monty Masters, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Edgewood Academy pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Edgewood Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Abbeville Christian Academy when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edgewood Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
