Volleyball Recap: Milpitas Finds Playoff Glory Versus Cupertino

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Milpitas had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Cupertino Pioneers. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won four in a row.

Milpitas had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-12.

Leading Milpitas to victory were Ashley Chen and Ellie Chu. Chen had 27 assists and 16 digs, while Chu had 13 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Chen has posted since back in October. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahnnayah Jhazmyn Buenaflor, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Milpitas' win bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Cupertino, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 25-9 record this season.

Milpitas will welcome Sequoia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cupertino does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
