Softball Recap: Watertown Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Oregon

Watertown faced Oregon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Goslings took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The game marked the Goslings' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Watertown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breanna Meracle, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Watertown's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Oregon, the win keeps they at an undefeated 14-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watertown will face off against Monona Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Goslings are facing the Silver Eagles at the right time seeing as the Silver Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Oregon, they will head out on the road to take on Sun Prairie West at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Wolves will have lost three straight heading into Saturday's game.
