The Jack Britt Buccaneers will venture away from home to face off against the Purnell Swett Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jack Britt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Jack Britt fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lumberton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-6. The Buccaneers haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Madisyn Norton spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Ashanthy Marcano was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Kailey Crenshaw also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Marcano wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Jack Britt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Purnell Swett didn't have quite enough to beat Cape Fear on Friday and fell 5-4.
Lanna Haggans and Nylah Johnson did some serious damage despite the final result: Haggans went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Johnson went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Shaniya Lewis, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Jack Britt's record now sits at 3-3. As for Purnell Swett, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4.
Purnell Swett's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jack Britt has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Purnell Swett, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Jack Britt's sizable advantage in that area, Purnell Swett will need to find a way to close that gap.
Jack Britt suffered a grim 14-6 defeat to Purnell Swett in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Jack Britt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
