Basketball Game Preview: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Pickens Dragons

Monroe has won three straight games at home, while Pickens has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Monroe Golden Tornadoes will welcome the Pickens Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Monroe is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Gilmer as Monroe made off with a 68-43 win. 68 seems to be a good number for the Golden Tornadoes as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

It was another big night for Lorenzo Still, who went 8-for-12 en route to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Burns, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 15 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Pickens over Fayette County in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Pickens blew past Fayette County 68-48. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Tigers are ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. Pickens' win bumped their record up to 28-1.
