Gunnison had already won six in a row and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Salida Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cowboys have posted since September 7, 2024.

In the two sets Gunnison was on fire: they won each by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-12, 15-5.

Aubrey Welfelt paced Gunnison's offense, picking up 12 kills. Welfelt got some help from Natalia Sabino and her 14 assists. Finally, Rose Kowal kept Gunnison's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Loss or not, Salida got some senior leadership from Madisyn Wilcox and Cooper Fisher. Wilcox had ten digs and three aces, while Fisher had eight digs and two assists. Wilcox is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last 14 games she's played.

Gunnison's record is now 16-5. As for Salida, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six matches and leaves them with a 14-7 record.

Gunnison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Telluride on the 1st. As for Salida, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Del Norte on the 1st.
