Basketball Game Preview: Homer-Center Wildcats vs. Portage Mustangs

The Homer-Center Wildcats will square off against the Portage Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Homer-Center will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Last Wednesday, it was close, but Homer-Center sidestepped Northern Cambria for a 47-45 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Colts since February 4, 2021.

Meanwhile, Portage strolled past Penns Manor with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 72-55. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Comets are ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Homer-Center is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Portage, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Homer-Center came up short against Portage in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 61-53. Can Homer-Center avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
