Baseball Recap: Cheney Comes Up Short

Cheney extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They fell 7-3 to the Shadle Park Highlanders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 on Tuesday.

Cheney saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Marcus Belarde was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Shadle Park, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Shadle Park's side, Mason Allison tossed a big game, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Allison has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Shadle Park let Drew Sanchez and Tyler Yarger run wild. Sanchez went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Yarger went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Sanchez has become a key player for Shadle Park: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carsyn Baldwin, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
