Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Central Griffins vs. Richard Winn Academy Eagles

The Fairfield Central Griffins will face off against the Richard Winn Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Fairfield Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Columbia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Fairfield Central was the clear victor by a 20-2 margin over Columbia on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Griffins' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Richard Winn Academy had just enough and edged out Wardlaw Academy 5-4 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Patriots since April 28, 2015.

Caroline Tolbert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Abby Lewis was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Langley Thompson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Richard Winn Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
