Softball Game Preview: Franklin County Eagles vs. Lord Botetourt Cavaliers

The Franklin County Eagles will challenge the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Wednesday, Franklin County made easy work of Cave Spring and carried off a 13-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Brooke Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Franklin County got a massive performance out of Madysen McCrickard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. McCrickard is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Eva Custer was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Franklin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cave Spring only posted an OBP of .343.

Meanwhile, Lord Botetourt got the win against Northside on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-6. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.

Franklin County's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Lord Botetourt, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Franklin County was able to grind out a solid win over Lord Botetourt in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-2. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
