Volleyball Recap: Nikiski Bulldogs vs. Soldotna Stars
Nikiski unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Soldotna Stars by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Stars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Nikiski took Soldotna into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13.
Blakeley Jorgensen paced Nikiski's offense, picking up 13 kills. Jorgensen got some help from Milly Hornung and her 34 assists. Mandee Roofe controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
The victory was the third in a row for Soldotna, bringing their record up to 3-3.
Looking ahead, Nikiski is taking a road trip to face off against Seward at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Bulldogs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Soldotna, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Kenai Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
